A guide to the three new witchers in 'The Witcher' Season 2

Just when everyone got “Toss a Coin to Your Witcher” out of their heads, Netflix announced the casting for seven new characters who will appear in the second season of The Witcher. Three of those characters should be familiar to anyone who has read Andrzej Sapkowski’s books or played CD Projekt Red games‚ because they are…wait for it…also witchers. 

Season 1 ended with Geralt finally meeting his Child Surprise Ciri and leads directly into the plot of Blood of Elves, the first full-length novel in Sapkowski’s series. Without spoiling too much, suffice it to say that he finds a way to introduce Ciri to his bros back at Kaer Morhan, the witcher stronghold he flashed back to at the end of Season 1. Bank of Korea Launches Blockchain Bond Research

According to the Bank of Korea and the financial market on the 18th, KHNP is selecting a provider at the end of last year and developing a blockchain bond system.

The difference with current bond transactions is that the records maintained by the Korea Securities Depository are transformed into a distributed ledger format where multiple nodes share information at the same time by applying blockchain technology.

In the distributed ledger method, when a transaction occurs, the participants of the transaction record the contents in their respective ledgers through agreement. The BOK, the KFTC, and other financial institutions involved in the transaction fall into each node.

The Bank of Korea’s research is being conducted with reference to the case of the World Bank. The World Bank has issued Blockchain Bond Bond I (BOND-I) with the Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) in 2018.

Issued in August 2018 with a two-year maturity, BondEye is a bond issued based on a private Ethereum protocol that restricts participants.

Unlike the World Bank, the Bank of Korea conducted tests on the assumption that bonds have already been issued, except for the issuance process. The test is currently in the proof of concept (POC) phase to boost research capabilities.

It is also pointed out that in order to introduce blockchain bonds, it is necessary to have a law to clarify accountability in case of a transaction problem. Unlike the centralized management system, the application of distributed ledger technology can make the responsible material unclear in case of an accident.

An official said,

“We use government bonds to record securities and cash transactions in a distributed ledger and test whether a real-time simultaneous payment trading system is possible.”

The World Bank raised a total of $74 million for its two-year blockchain bond as of August 2019. South Korea’s central bank announced in late 2019 that it would be setting up a dedicated group to research central bank digital currency in 2020.

Visa & CoinBase Partner Up for Debit Cards

If you are a long-term cryptocurrency user, chances are that you are aware of the previous Visa-based digital currency cards that allowed holders to spend their crypto at POS card terminals, or to easily withdraw cash at any ATM. After a few years of activity, Visa decided to cancel all crypto-based cards.

Now, recent reports indicate that Coinbase, one of the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchanges, has teamed up with Visa and Paysafe, in order to provide customers with a Visa debt card that can be used to spend crypto held in user wallets. The cryptocurrency exchange is now a Visa Principal Member, which means that it can offer cards with innovative features, on multiple markets. So far, it seems like Coinbase is the first company to achieve this status.

In the long run, this partnership might entail that Coinbase’s Visa debit card will be available throughout Europe, but also on other continents such as North America, Asia, Africa and South America. According to the press release announcing this development, “the newly-obtained status is a significant milestone in the mainstream adoption of crypto (…) This membership will enable us to offer more features for Coinbase Card customers; from additional services to support in more markets — all elements that will help to evolve and enrich the cryptocurrency payment experience”

This statement definitely makes sense, granted that one of the main impediments towards mass adoption is user inability to freely spending crypto as they like, due to insufficient merchant adoption. Through crypto debit cards, the digital currency community will be able to take advantage of the current system, since point-of-sale terminals exist in most shops worldwide. We are excited to see whether other debit card providers will follow suit, and further facilitate the integration between cards and cryptocurrencies.

But it now seems Tesla is serious about making its Solar Roof ubiquitous. On Sunday, Tesla CEO Elon Musk revealed on Twitter that the company plans to offer the roof internationally “later this year.” 

Looking forward to international expansion later this year 😀

Here’s a frustrating fact: the Olympic torch relay has never been started by a female athlete.

Thankfully, that’s about to change, with the announcement of Rio de Janeiro gold medalist Anna Korakaki as the starting athlete for the torch relay for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

Announced by Greece’s Hellenic Olympic Committee on Thursday, Korakaki will take the first leg of the relay, which begins, as per tradition, with a flame lighting ceremony on March 12 in Olympia, Greece, the ancient site which hosted the original Games.

The flame is still lit by means of a traditional ceremony at the Temple of Hera, where a modern high priestess uses just the sun and a parabolic mirror to ignite it. Fittingly, Hera is the Greek queen of the gods, and seen as the goddess of women. Read more…
